[Opendock] Carrier Self Check-out

  • Updated

Carrier Self Check-Out is available for all warehouses in Opendock that have Gate Management enabled. Drivers can now complete their own check-out independently, no manual action required from gate staff.

Why It Matters?

Previously, gate operators had to manually close every visit in the system. At high-volume docks where staff are simultaneously managing multiple trucks, this created bottlenecks and slowed down dock exits.

With Self Check-Out, drivers handle their own departure confirmation, freeing your gate team to stay focused on incoming traffic and keeping the dock moving efficiently.

How to Use

For Gate/Warehouse Administrators:

  1. Go to Opendock > Warehouses > Settings >  Gate Management > Check-Out

  2. The Check-Out QR code is now visible by default, no additional setup required.

  3. Configure the "Bill of Lading Signing" field, this is set to No by default. Note: Warehouses not connected to Shipper Guide cannot enable the option 'Yes' at this time.

  4. Select the matching field between check-in and check-out. The default is phone number.

  5. Add custom form fields to the check-out flow if your operation requires additional data capture.

For Drivers:

  1. When ready to depart, scan the Check-Out QR code displayed at the gate and click on 'Start Check-out'

  2. Enter the confirmation number (in this case, phone number), that must match what was used at check-in.

  3. Complete any additional fields shown on the form.

  4. The appointment will automatically update to "Completed"

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Do I need to configure anything to activate Carrier Self Check-Out in Opendock?

A: No. If your warehouse already has Gate Management enabled, the Check-Out QR code is visible and functional by default. You may optionally customize the matching field or add custom form fields, but the feature works out of the box.

Q2: What happens if the driver enters a phone number that doesn't match their check-in record?

A: The system will not allow the check-out to complete. The phone number entered during check-out must exactly match the one provided at check-in. If a driver is having trouble, gate staff can verify the original check-in record or complete a manual check-out on their behalf through the portal.

Q3: Can I require drivers to sign a Bill of Lading as part of the check-out process?

A: The Bill of Lading signing option is available in the Check-Out settings in Opendock, but it is set to No by default. Enabling it requires your warehouse to be connected to ShipperGuide. If your warehouse is not currently connected, the "Yes" option will not be selectable. Contact your account team if you'd like to explore the Shipper Guide integration.
