How is the Empty Mileage calculated?
Empty miles are calculated automatically when a new load is created. After a user assigns a driver and truck for the load, Carrier TMS calculates the distance between the new pick-up location and one of the following:
- Truck's Previous Drop-off
The empty miles calculation is based on the drop-off date of the truck's last load. The last load to be included in the calculation must be in the status of booked, dispatched, or active. Any other status will not be counted. This feature will trigger to calculate empty mileage only when a new load is being created. - Truck's Most Recent Location
The calculation of empty miles is determined by the truck's ELD's most recent location. If the previous rule, Truck's Previous Drop-off, does not find a load, the system will try to find the last known position of the truck from its breadcrumbs. No position will be returned if the organization does not have an ELD integration installed or the truck has no breadcrumbs recorded. This feature won't be accessible if the truck isn't connected to an ELD integration on Carrier TMS. - Custom - Users have the option to enter the empty mileage manually. Additionally, if there are no truck positions identified based on the two rules previously mentioned, the empty miles will automatically be set to zero.
Please keep in mind that once a load is created, the Custom option will be the only function available to adjust the empty mileage calculation.
