On ShipperGuide, you can request a new rate on a quote by sending a counter offer to any carrier who has submitted a bid. This lets you negotiate directly with carriers before booking. Note that the counter offer feature only applies to carrier bids — it does not include Loadsmart's brokerage rates, since Loadsmart offers 100% tender acceptance on its quotes.

How to make a counter offer:

1. After carriers have submitted their bids for the quote, select the carrier you want to send a counter offer and click Counter Offer.

Please note: If you edit a quote's accessorials after it's been sent, a counter email is automatically triggered to every carrier who submitted a bid, notifying them of the change and asking them to update their spot bids accordingly.

If the bid deadline has passed you will not be able to send a Counter Offer. Update the bid deadline first, then send your counter offer request.

2. A pop-up window will appear. Enter your message for the counter offer and click .

3. The carrier will receive an email for the counter offer request. The email contains a link that takes them directly to the quote page for them to submit a new rate.

4. Once the carrier submits a new rate, the shipper account’s email will receive an email with the carrier’s original and proposed rate for the quote. 

The carrier’s new rate will be available on the quote in ShipperGuide, along with the price variation from their previous rate. You can request counter offers from the same carrier multiple times if needed.

Can I counter Loadsmart's brokerage rate on a quote?
No. The counter offer feature only applies to rates submitted by carriers. Loadsmart's brokerage rate is fixed since it comes with 100% tender acceptance.

What happens if the carrier doesn't respond to my counter offer?
The quote simply keeps the carrier's original bid until they respond, update their rate, or the bid deadline passes.

Can I send more than one counter offer to the same carrier?
Yes, there's no limit — you can send a carrier a counter offer as many times as needed while the bid deadline is still open.

Why can't I click Counter Offer on a carrier's bid?
The bid deadline has likely passed. Update the bid deadline on the quote, then you'll be able to send counter offers again.

Does editing accessorials after sending a quote notify carriers automatically?
Yes. Any accessorial change after the quote has been sent triggers an automatic email to all carriers who submitted bids, asking them to update their spot bids.
