[Opendock] What is a Carrier Contact

Opendock generically uses the term "carrier" to represent any external scheduler (e.g. vendor, supplier, broker, truck driver, etc.). A carrier contact is the user profile assigned to an appointment.

The list of contacts available on the Carrier Contacts page contains Opendock's global list of carriers who have either registered through the carrier.opendock.com portal or who have been created by other warehouse users.

Carrier Company Names on the Contact List

Each carrier contact is tied to a carrier company, which can have both a DBA (Doing Business As) Name and a Legal Name. On the Carrier Contacts list, the company's Legal Name now displays underneath its DBA Name — making it easier to tell apart companies that have merged or operate under a different legal entity than their trading name (for example, a company doing business as "TNI" with a legal name of "TRI-NATIONAL LLC").

• Search on the Carrier Contacts page still matches against the DBA Name, not the Legal Name.
• If you can't find a company by its legal name, try searching for its DBA name instead.
   

Note: You are welcome to use the carrier contact and carrier company object to capture any external scheduler's contact information (e.g. vendor, supplier, broker, truck driver, etc.).

• Example: If tracking carrier performance is not as important as tracking your vendor's performance, don't hesitate to repurpose the carrier contact and company fields to capture vendor contact data instead.

Q: Why do I see two names under one carrier company on the contact list?
A: The top name is the company's DBA (Doing Business As) Name, and the name below it is the company's Legal Name — useful when a company operates under a trading name that differs from its registered legal name.

Q: Can I search by Legal Name?
A: Not currently — search on the Carrier Contacts page matches the DBA Name only.

Q: Where do I set or update a company's DBA Name or Legal Name?
A: These are set when creating or editing the carrier company (see Adding Carrier Company).

Q: What if a carrier company doesn't have a Legal Name set?
A: Only the DBA Name will display on the list; nothing shows underneath it.
